About us

Who are we?

Okay, let's be honest here, there isn't a "we." It's just me. You can call me DeBaptiste (Day-Buh-teeste). I'm just a Trinidadian-born conceptual artist trying to make a name for himself, support my daughter, and get some ideas out in the best way I can.

What is a conceptual artist?

A conceptual artist is someone who creates art where the idea or concept behind the work is more important than the traditional aesthetic, material, or technical aspects of the finished piece. So the medium is not as important as the message or idea being conveyed.
I’ve done everything from rap to photography all in service of the ideas in my head and to bring value to those that are experiencing it. Some ideas work better as a poem, and some work better as a photo. The main point is to communicate those ideas as clearly as possible so that everyone can connect to them.

Since I was a kid running around barefoot in the Caribbean, I was always creating and using art as a way to escape the life I had. But I never knew the power it held. It was just an escape. Still, I knew I was destined for greater things.

Moving to the U.S. was the catalyst that set me on this path; to truly become an artist, not just for myself, but to break generational curses and set my family on new path going forward. To show that dreams really do come true, you just have to keep pushing.

This hasn't been easy. Everyone who has taken this path knows that. But it is very rewarding. The reward comes from the community, and the freedom it can bring if you can offer value.

This isn’t for me. I’m just a voice, hands, and a mind. This is not about me, this is about the value I can bring to the people that come across me.

“This is something you do for a billion years or not at all. This isn’t fashion.”
The Master

That quote really stuck with me. For me, it means you have to approach everything you do with a level of love that can transcend time.
I know; a bit of a stretch, but that’s how I approach everything I do. I have to bring value to the people I’m creating for, and not just fluff my ego. Something that I have to do with love or not at all.

This isn’t just a brand, this is my life.
This “Scribe” style I've been working on for over 10 years, and I finally feel confident enough to speak in this voice and create freely.

What is the “Scribe” style?

It’s an idea I had a long time ago, while thinking about the systems we take for granted.

It’s like this photo -----

we’ve created these systems ourselves, and we place so much value in them. So what is really true? How do we find that Truth?

When we dig up ancient texts and translate them, how do we know the truth of what’s being said? A small percentage of meaning is lost in translation, because we can’t fully grasp the emotion or understand the times in which it was created. So we come to our own conclusions, based on the information given, and the dictate our lives based on it.

To me, that’s flawed.

If you're still reading this; thank you. Let's bring it home.

How about we create our own civilization? Our own language? Our own customs?

So, what I bring to you is this idea.
In this world, you have to make money to survive ; so yes, I have products for sale.
Because you know... capitalism. I need to support my daughter in the best way possible.

But just know; you are not buying into something vapid.
You are buying into something with the depth of a billion years.

You are buying into a community of like-minded individuals.
You are investing in an artist who will continue to create for a billion years; someone whose value will only increase.

$100 today...
$1,000,000 in the future.

These aren’t just art pieces.
They’re artifacts.
And you are the archaeologists, anthropologists, paleontologists, and historians of the internet.
